Valentine Day

Valentine is a common occasion that spreading arround the world now. But we dont know well  how 14 february become a popular day for a valentine to express love, care with gifts. Valentine are of medieval origin (6th-7th centuries), and are historically unreliable. The name valentine was popular in antiquity, as it is derived from the word. Over time, the festival has grown in popularity and eventually began to be associated with love and lovers. Some researchers have hypothesized that the association with romantic love on Valentine's Day is linked to the customs associated with the Roman festival of Lupercalia, which fell in mid-February. Others believe that the connection to the romance of Valentine refers to the natural season in which the holiday falls

According to the catholic encyclopedia, "at least three different saint valentines, all of them martyrs, are mentioned in the early martyrologies under the date of 14 February. " one was a priest in Rome, the second one was a bishop of interamna (now Terni, Italy) and the third st. Valentine was a martyr in the roman province of Africa. Legends vary on how the martyr's name became connected with romance.

Where exactly on Valentine's Day and its association with romance come from? we all know that it is connected with saint valentine, the Christian saint. However it's not clear why this should have become a day of love. There are many legends surrounding valentine. One of the most popular says that he was a priest at the time of the emperor Claudius. When Claudius forbade marriage, valentine married couples in secret. He was eventually discovered and beheaded. It's a great story, but all we know for sure is that valentine was a Christian martyr.

 The date of his death may have become mingled with the feast of lupercalia, a pagan festival of love. On these occasions, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which they were drawn by the men as chance directed. In 496 ad, pope gelasius decided to put an end to the feast of lupercalia, and he declared that February 14 be celebrated as st valentine's day. Gradually, February 14 became a date for exchanging love messages, poems and simple gifts such as flowers.

 
 

 Nowadays valentine days identic with gift and love expression occasion. Choosing a gift for your  love one is heavy things to do. Just remind you can give something usefull for her/him that will be usefull beside a romantic rose or chacolate.
