When it comes to decorating your house, you may sometimes find yourself looking around the room and wishing it was bigger. It would have more light, you could do more with it, fit more things in it - there are any number of reasons why people go for open plan living. In the end, it is entirely up to you, but the fact is that when it comes to decorating, you can't beat an open plan arrangement for letting the maximum amount of light into every corner of your home.
When decorating an open plan room you want to let us much light in as you possible can. The open plan is great for anyone looking to brighten up a room. To achive this look you must put pick light colors. You will want to make the walls, ceiling and the floors a pale shade. You will also want to use light colored furniture to match. If you don't have a large amount of dark colors in your room then it will automatically seem lighter. You may want to use a base color of white or cream and then accent the room with any color you like.
Accents are important when you have a large, open space, particularly when it comes to breaking it up into distinct areas. The fact is that you will be doing different things in different parts of your open plan living area, so it is important to break it up where necessary and you can achieve this with careful use of accents and decorative objects.
If you have a long bare wall in the room you may want to place several framed photos on that wall or a picture within a group that will break up the look. Your pictures will be able to help create the illusion of two separated areas even though there are no walls standing between them.
One solution to seperate rooms is to purchase an area rug for each section. This will help you separate different parts of your space. You can use a large rug to put down in front of all the seating in the living room. Or you can add a group of rugs in a certain area to get the same effect. For example, you can place a group of four rugs with a small gap in between each one to give the illusion of one large area rug.
When you decorate your own space you will soon find out what works for you and what does not. The main thing to remember is to use light colors as your base colors as well as on your furniture. You don't need separation walls to clutter up your space. YOu can achive a mental division with these simple easy tips. |
