Major Reasons Behind Low Water Pressure

Due to low water pressure, many times less amount of water flows through your faucets and shower heads. Low water pressure is caused because of some reasons.

First of all, it is important to learn the main causes of low water pressure. Some of the main causes are: pressure regulators, elevation, home valves, water leaks and mineral deposit build-up. Identifying proper cause of problem is the first step towards repairing it. Now we will learn in more detail about all these causes.

A pressure regulator looks like a bell. It is very important water device. If there is any problem in its working then that could cause a low water pressure in some or all the water fittings of your home. Its repair is little cumbersome and an expert plumber can do that.

Water pressure gets affected by the elevation of your water tank. A tank kept at lower height than your home could reduce the water pressure. To prevent this problem always install your water tank on the top of your house, so that flow of water becomes fast and easy due to force of gravity.

Main water valve in house controls the water supply. When the valve is not completely turned off or turned on, it affects the water supply. For having a continuous and uninterrupted supply, always put the valve at ON mode.

The water supply pipes in your home may get damaged resulting in low water pressure through faucets. The reason behind low water pressure is very simple and obvious. When your supply pipes will be damaged and have leak, a huge part of water will get wasted on its way and as a result only half of the water reach to the stem of a faucet. This will ultimately result in less flow of water through the faucet.

If you want to confirm that your pipes are actually leaking or not then you have to perform a small test. For this you have to shut off the main water valve and make a note of water meter reading, check the reading again after some time. If you find an increase in the reading then your water system has leakage.

The clog could build-up in faucets and shower heads, preventing flow of water with full pressure. To fix this problem, clean the faucet heads and shower heads in your home. If the reason for low water pressure was same, the problem will be solved. After following all of the above steps, if the problem still persists then the last option is to hire a professional plumber.
