How To Write A Great Article In 6 Steps

Articles are used for a variety of purposes. There are those articles that are used in the news, those that are used in books and academic papers and those that are used online. When anyone is writing an article, regardless of where it is going to be published there are ways to make it great. If you are an article writer who is just starting out or who would like some advice it can be tricky to know where to look. Here is help to show you how to write a great article in 6 steps.
Step one - during the first paragraph you must explain to the reader what the subject of the article is. Do not over complicate this, just make this paragraph punchy and to the point.
Step two - now it is time to create a summary of the facts contained within the article that will set the scene. Do this within the second paragraph and you will get the attention of the reader. Be careful to make sure that this is not simply a rewrite of the first paragraph or you will not be writing a great article.
Step three - learn how to write in engaging style suitable for the article you are writing. This means not switching styles mid article and this can be very confusing for the reader. Some people find this comes naturally to them, whereas others struggle little. If you find that you struggle keep going to your article as you are writing to ensure similarity of style throughout.
Step four - write as though you are speaking directly to your reader in a conversational style. A lot of readers find that reading articles written in this way is much more appealing. So aim to do this when you are writing yourself, and you will be creating great articles before you know it.
Step five - if you are going to be writing on a topic that you have never heard of do your research. There is no point in writing something that will end up being confusing or that does not have the correct information. Do this and you will find that your articles are criticized for your lack of professionalism. Take the time to understand subjects or simply do not write on them. It is better to turn down an article rather than write a poor one, particularly if it is your job.
Step six - stay on topic! This is a point that cannot be stressed enough as a lot of writers wander off topic when writing. If you do this you will not be creating great articles, they will be confusing and disjointed. Anyone who is concerned about this should re-read the article they are writing every couple of paragraphs.
Now that you have the six tips on how to write a great article it is time to get started. Follow the tips and you will find your own writing style and start to produce some great articles. With time you will continue to improve and you might even be able to make a living out of writing articles. |
