Basic tools are required by any person who wants to have carpentry as his hobby. In carpentry, to get the finished products, different home tools are required. The basic requirement is nails and screws as wood pieces have to be fastened to each other with these. Though these home tools may appear to look boring, they are the basic essentials for your carpentry work or any other work requiring the use of these basic home tools.

Gimlet and bradawl are the other tools required for making holes in different types of wood and for screwing and nailing different sections of wood. Before beginning this type of work you will also require hand drills which are easily available in the market. Ordinary looking hand drills with different sized twist drills are available in the hand drill kit for drilling holes in different types of wood. For drilling holes in the hard wood planks the breast drill suits best.

Simple tools are the best:

Simple looking tools are just enough for use if you are a beginner. Experienced carpenters and workers need specially designed tools to be able to do complicated and quicker types of work. Beginners are not too familiar about using different home tools. A carpenter who is an amateur needs to use more pressure while using tools like the twist drill, and has to do it with skill, otherwise the twist drill could bend and even break.

While purchasing hand drills, you will also get the drill bits inside the pack. For light drilling jobs the Archimedean drill is available in the market, which can be used on lighter woods. Holes in solid wood can be drilled by the carpenter's brace for drilling holes of large diameters. Auger bits are used for drilling large holes.

Tools - practicality and functionality:

Screw drivers are available in different sizes and they are a major too in the home kit. Larger wood screws need the cabinet type screw driver, while the working on other types of screws the pump action type of screw is best. Force has to be used while using a screw driver and a beginner has to be careful while he uses the screw driver as with the slide, his fingers could get trapped. Many of the screw drivers like the Philip screw driver as well as the general purpose screw drivers have handles that are flattened and help in gripping the tool better.

Some basic tools used by carpenters are the special tipped drills for drilling holes in walls. Drilling light and finer holes can be done with the Archimedean drill and point tipped drill bits. For cutting large circles in wood that is not too thick, a beginner needs to also purchase the hole-saw for cutting larger circles. For boring holes in wood a screw driver should be totally avoided. Besides the above mentioned home tools, we should not forget the most important tool, and that is the hammer. They are a must in every home, as they are used for nailing a nail or used for withdrawing nails from the walls and pieces of wood. While working on metal, the mechanics hammer and the Warrington hammer need to be used. For heavy duty work the sledge hammer suits best.
