As the most popular camcorder formats, AVCHD is a HD format for the digital recording and playback of high-definition video. The format was developed by Sony and Panasonic in 2006. For video compression, AVCHD uses the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AVC) standard, supporting a variety of standard, high definition, and stereoscopic (3D) video resolutions. For audio compression, supports both Dolby AC-3 (Dolby Digital) and uncompressed linear PCM audio. Stereo and multichannel surround (5.1) are both supported.

AVCHD supports a variety of video resolutions and scanning methods, which has been further extended with the 2011 amendment of the specification. The licensing body of the specification defines a variety of labels for products compliant with specific features. Most AVCHD camcorders support only a handful of the video and audio formats allowed in the AVCHD standard.

However, many people don’t know how to edit AVCHD on Mac with FCE, FCP as below:

Q1: GH2 AVCHD Lite to FCE on Mac?

I also choose AVCHD Lite as the recording mode from My Lumix DMC-GH2, as it also provides high quality videos. However, it is not easy to edit movies in this format on Mac, as it requires high configuration to handle AVCHD Lite videos. I want to edit Panasonic GH2 AVCHD Lite videos on Mac Final Cut Express 4. Any Help ?

Q2: Can't import Panasonic HDC-TM900 AVCHD to FCP X?

When I purchased Final Cut Pro X from App Store, it was supposed to support AVCHD video files directly. But I can’t import my MTS videos from Panasonic TM900 into FCP X, why?

So I found a AVCHD tool from website for AVCHD to FCE Converter are designed for Canon, Panasonic, Sony, JVC camcorder users to convert AVCHD MTS/M2TS to FCE (Final Cut E) formats MP4, MOV, DV, HDV. Then you also can import AVCHD to FCP for editing your camcorder footage captured with AVCHD formats.
