Electronic manufacturing services are services in which a company specializes in the assembly of printed circuit boards. It's necessary to have an electronic manufacturer in order to get new ideas off the ground, or even to improve current circuit designs among existing products.
The conventional method of attaching components to a board is to cut holes in the circuit board, and then solder the leads to the contacts running along the board. Although functional, it is grossly inefficient compared to surface mount devices. SMD chips, as they are called, can be used without the obnoxious soldering, and operates at a cooler temperature. The temperature benefit alone is enough to make SMD chips the favored choice when the option is given.
Electronic contractors should also have policies in place to use lead-free solder. Lead is a harmful substance that, when released into the environment, can cause havoc on an ecosystem. Lead can also be dangerous if somehow ingested into the human body. Therefore, lead-free solder solutions should be a part of any manufacturer's repertoire. If not, you may consider doing business elsewhere among more friendly services.
Opt for conformal coating when it is offered. It, like other discussed technologies, has become rather standard. Conformal coating creates a thin shield that protects circuits against the elements. Whereas even simple dust particles could cripple an electronic circuit long ago, conformal coating allows circuits to keep operating in the most musty of environments. Circuits can also be water proofed to a certain extent, which is entirely necessary for areas with a high humidity.
Knowing how to troubleshoot the hardware you buy through a manufacturer is the most important part of running an efficient game plan. Troubleshooting is done through schematics of the circuit, which are then used to find out why a circuit has stopped working for a quick component replacement. If you intend on reselling the hardware, it's imperative that well though out schematics are created so that you or third parties may repair expensive hardware that consumers would otherwise not be able to replace due to high production costs.
The ideal manufacturer also has a team to test the hardware that is built in order to verify it works as it should. An example of poor construction would be with a machine that is built to count products on an assembly line. With testing standards in place, discrepancies with counting over long intervals of time can be found and fixed. Even a small calibration error can lead to problems in a circuit.
In Conclusion
Electronics manufacturers vary in the services they offer. Check with several to see which your business would be able to afford, yet also pick one with a reputation that is admirable. Faulty hardware may give your business a bad reputation or lead to internal problems of your own. |
