Choosing the outdoor heating that will be best for your patio or yard can be a challenge. There are many different styles, designs, and types of outdoor heaters that are beautiful and can bring a yard or patio together. Some of the heaters require electricity or natural gas. When these heaters are chosen, you will need to have the necessary outlets installed in the area where you put your heater.
People have used propane heat for both residential and agriculture for many years. These heaters provide an even flow of heat and are easily identified by their umbrella tops. The heaters are designed in styles that range from an antique lamp look to a modern abstract design that will fit in any decor.
Some of the more popular heaters are table top models that contain a small propane tank which is filled manually at a propane distributor. These heaters resemble the umbrella type of heaters that can be as much as six feet tall and are used as stand-alone heaters throughout a yard.
The advantage of using these types of heaters is that they are extremely mobile. Even the larger heaters can be moved to different areas of the yard as needed. Another advantage is that the propane tank can have an optional indicator attached that shows when the tank is getting low.
These heaters expend up to 41,000 BTUs of heat in a radius from eight to twelve feet. Many of these heaters are being manufactured in styles that are unique and will fit a modern decor. A new design provides a standing bonfire that is made with mesh encasing a flickering flame as it expels heat.
Electrical outdoor heaters are available in diverse styles that can serve a dual purpose in a yard. They provide heat evenly up to nine feet in radius. Many of these heaters also have lamps built in to them and product infrared heat. These lights can be installed on a wall of the home to light and keep a patio area warm, or they can be used in units that stand on the floor of the patio. The units are less mobile than propane heaters because of the need for an electrical outlet or cord to power the system.
When a person is looking for the classic look of a fireplace or pit, they must often find alternatives to burning wood. Fireplaces and pits are designed to use any of the fuel sources found in other types of outdoor heaters. You can get a pit that is fueled by natural gas or electrical energy. These units are usually built in and surrounded by seating that invites guests to sit and chat. Other people find that the use of a more natural and mobile heater will meet their needs more effectively.
Many of the wood fireplaces that are made also can be converted to use natural or propane gas. Natural gas outlets are often preferable than electric heaters when then are installed near pools or other areas that may get wet. It is important when using an electrical heater that the proper safety precautions are taken regarding cords and conduit.
Ethanol gel which is fermentation grade ethyl alcohol, is very popular in fireplaces that are equipped for wood or gas. These gels produce the crackling flames that wood does and are long burning. They do not produce smoke or toxins in the air and are preferable in an environmentally friendly area. People living in areas where burning wood is prohibited find that the gel packs are a viable alternative for these types of heaters. |
