For those new to hunting and looking to get into some Whitetail Deer hunting, the following will offer some basic hints and tips and how to get started with gear and locating hunting grounds, as well as strategies for your hunt.
The first thing that you need to consider is what sort of hunter you are and what sort of hunt hunting you want to participate in. If you feel that you are the type to want to get in nice and close to nature and to watch and wait for lengthy periods, then bow hunting is probably for you. For those that prefer a little bit more of an in your face approach with their mates then they should hunt during the rifle season. For those still keen on a gun recoil but who want a tougher challenge, then muzzle-loading may be the way to go.
Once you have decided what sort of hunt you want, you need to get geared up according to the technique you have chosen. For bow hunting you can go from anything from timber camouflage to snow camouflage depending on what terrain you are in. You may also need the use of several hunting tools. There are many that you will need to procure, including a bow, game calls and scents to name a few.
For muzzle-loading and rifle hunting, you will not be in such need of these aids. In terms of what to wear, you can go out in whatever you desire from mid-weather to cold-weather attire. Keep in mind that you will want to wear something with bright red to alarm other hunters of your presence.
The next step is locating some good whitetail deer hunting ground which can put up a few issues. The best sorts of land are timber or creek areas that are between a food source and bedding area. If you have any land of your own that falls into this category then great, but this is unlikely. If you know someone who does, then ask permission to use it for your hunt, or else shop about for public hunting grounds or look into leasing hunting land.
After finding the grounds you simply need to get yourself out there and start hunting. In order to mold yourself into an accomplished hunter you will need to gain knowledge and experience to enhance your skills. These can only be done by being an active whitetail deer hunter.
Once you have got yourself out there, then there are a number of different whitetail deer hunting strategies that you could employ. These strategies, of course, depend heavily on what sort of hunt you are on. You could be sat in a tree stand using scents and calls, or you might be using certain member of a group to flush out a deer for another party. Either way, it is good to try a little of everything to see which sits best with you. |
