The Opportunity
National chemistry membership organisation with over 6,000 members seeks a Chief Executive Officer. Representing and catering for the professional needs of all chemists, the organisation provides various activities and services that encompass the profession of chemistry in Australia.
As the CEO, you will oversee the national office (based in North Melbourne) and ensure that the strategic direction of the organisation is implemented. This is a great opportunity to draw upon your science (ideally chemistry) or Engineering background and your GM and/or CEO experiences to “breath new life into the organisation” while maintaining the pre-existing values.
Your duties will include (but not be limited to):
• Taking overall responsibility for the day to day operations of the institute at both state and national level
• Developing an agreed strategic plan for the institute
• Working closely with the Marketing Manager to increase public awareness of the organisation
• Staff Management (national and state branches)
• Board committee liaison including attending board meetings and reporting on the progress of or institute
• Interaction with state and federal government agencies and industries
• Preparing annual documentation / reports
• Annual budget preparation
To be considered for the role it is essential that you have:
• Previous experience at a senior management level – GM or CEO (ideally within the chemistry, science or engineering field)
• A Tertiary Degree in a scientific or engineering field, ideally relating to chemistry
• A strong understanding of financial management, reports and budgets
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• The ability to work within a small team;
• The ability to travel intrastate and interstate;
• The ability to work independently;
