Caring for Children-an online course
Course is presented online. Each lesson has a discussion area, pre and post-tests, assignments and web links for further knowledge.
This informative course is based on the principles of child development. It explores the different needs of children at different stages. Topics covered include physical, emotional and cognitive growth, safety, health, communicating, creativity, self-esteem, socialization, guidance, finding time for you, and organizational skills.
Students will not need materials other than access to the Internet and a computer. Caregivers will benefit from the fact that they will be able to take course from the comfort of home or work.
1.Lesson 1-Keeping Children Safe : Lesson 1 -- Keeping Children Safe In this lesson, we'll explore ways of childproofing your home, to ensure safety and awareness of possible dangers. We'll discuss creating safety rules to include fire and emergency preparation and drills.
2.Lesson 2-Healthy Children : What is a state of health? Being in good health means being in a state of well being, healthy physically, mentally, and socially, not just being without illness. One part of our being affects all other parts.
3.Lesson 3-Creating a Learning Environment : In today's lesson, we will discuss ways of organizing areas that encourage learning. We will explore how to use appropriate equipment and materials to encourage play and discovery.
4.Lesson 4-Physical Development : In today's lesson, we will discuss ways of promoting children's physical development. We will examine and learn how to reinforce and encourage physical development through activities and interactions.
5.Lesson 5-Cognitive Growth : In today's lesson, we will discuss cognitive development and ways of providing opportunities for cognitive development throughout the day.
6.Lesson 6-Communication : Being able to communicate is vital to our ability to relate to others and our environment. Our relationships with others depend on how well we can understand and respond to what they have to say and how well they understand us.
7.Lesson 7-Creativity : What does it mean to be creative? Does it mean you have to be an artist or a musician? No, but we may sometimes confuse creativity with talent.
8.Lesson-8- Self-Esteem : Our self-esteem is important to our success in life. As we grow, the experiences we have form our feelings about ourselves. Throughout our lives, we learn to value who we are and what we are able to do.
9.Lesson 9-Social Skills: We use social skills every day. When we let someone into our line at the store, when we wait our turn to speak in a conversation, or when we say please and thank you to others, we are using social skills.
10. Lesson 10-Discipline: I'd be willing to bet that you've tried to figure out how to take some of the stress out of caring for kids? Have you noticed that some of your discipline techniques are not working? Children have to be taught discipline.
11. Lesson 11-Finding Time for Yourself: Family life has changed quite a bit over the last few generations. In today's society, there are an increasing number of single parents as well as a larger number of families where both parents work.
12. Lesson 12-Staying Organized: Today we will try to help you bring much of what you have learned into practice. We will show you how to organize this information for practical use.
